Gender

Dorothy Allison once said," Class, race, sexuality, gender and all other categories by which we categorize and dismiss each other need to be excuvated from the inside." This means that there should be no categories for human beings. We should not have to deal with making ourselves something we are not. People do not have the right to destroy our wealth of ourselves by putting names to who we are. This statement is true because it shows that because of those categories, we as people get labeled for things we can not help being. It is very troublesome to be told to act a certain way or when to talk or not just because of who we are or what our race is. This can clearly be seen in the book written by Margot Livesy called The Flight Of Gemma Hardy. In Margot Livesy's novel, readers can see that Gemma has many different choices to make such as; going to a private school only for girls, getting married at a young age, and finding out what her real life was like. 

The Flight of Gemma Hardy

The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesy is a coming-of-age book about a young girl named Gemma. Her story tells people how horrible and tough it was to live as a young lady in Scotland in the 50's. She has to go through many challenges that leave her with not a lot of choices. Gemma takes on the pain of losing her parents, learning to love someone who is unloveable, and understanding that sometimes life is way harder than you think. Follow Gemma on her journey to find her own life and maybe yours too.

#27 Losing My Bride

It was on the day of his wedding that Harry had really gotten nervous. They had gotten the wedding booked in a famous church in London, England; Harry's birthplace. The date was June 15th, 2025 and Harry was florid. He was officially getting married to the love of his life, Marlynn. He couldn't believe that he had gotten her to agree to marrying him. His best friend and best man was Liam. Harry wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Liam's advice for setting him up with Marlynn. Now Harry was ready to get to the alter and marry his love. As Harry was waiting, he saw a wilting rose lying at the alter and he didn't give it a second thought. His attention was then turned to Marlynn, who was wearing a beautiful, long, white wedding dress. She came up to the alter and looked at Harry. Harry looked out at the audience and saw that his friend Liam's pet turtle was sitting on the front row. He couldn't believe he even agreed to let the turtle in the church, let alone to his wedding. Harry never once thought that this would be the beginning of his new life.

Hero

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." - Christopher Reeve ("Superman")

This quote means that anyone can be a hero. It doesn't matter if you are not capable of being strong or you can't help everybody. As long as you help one person and show them how good you are then all of the other stuff doesn't matter. Being a hero is something that happens to normal everyday people. 

I agree wholeheartedly that a hero is a ordinary person and that they can be people that you meet on the street and not know them. I also think that hero's are very important people because they will be the type of people to help or save you in the future.

My hero has gotten me through so much in my life and I don't know what I would do without her. That person is my mom. She is a normal person who overcomes obstacles and can find the strength to fight through any hard times.  I know that she has so much work to do on her own, but she still tries to help my whole family out. That is what a hero is.
